I CAN DO IT

I believe many people sense quite clearly
where their talents lie.
They have ideas.
Wishes.
A direction.

And yet they remain where they are.
Not because they don’t want to move.
But because something is missing:
the strength to act.
Or perhaps something even simpler:
the trust that it could really work.

I often hear sentences like:
“He has it easy.”
“She’s talented.”
“They don’t have children.”
“He has money.”

As if success were always just an external advantage.

But sometimes we meet someone
who quietly disproves all of these explanations.

I once met a young man
who fled from Afghanistan to Austria in 2015.
After years on the run,
he ended up in a refugee camp.
No money.
No papers.
No language.
No education.
No family.

And yet there was something in him
that felt surprisingly calm:
one sentence.

“I can do it.”

At the time, I tried to support him with job applications.
I came with lists.
With alternatives.
With plan B.

He listened.
And then simply said:
“I am an auto mechanic.
I want to work in this profession.
And I can do it.”

There were many rejections.
But he didn’t want to consider other options.
Not out of stubbornness.
More out of clarity.

After a few weeks,
he was invited for a trial day.
And he got the position.
In a highly competitive profession.
As a young man with refugee status.
With a temporary visa.
With Afghan origin.

I was almost more surprised than he was.
He just smiled and said:
“I told you I could do it.”

A few years later,
he wanted to bring his young wife to Austria.
I thought:
That’s impossible.
Or at least far too difficult.

I said:
“Wouldn’t it be easier if…”

He simply shook his head.
He was certain.
He did, step by step, what was needed.

Then the Taliban took power.
Airports were closed.
Another obstacle.
Another standstill.

And yet:
Today he lives in Vienna with his wife.

A miracle?
Maybe.

Or maybe something else:
a form of willpower
that isn’t loud.

An unshakable inner knowing:
I keep going.
Even against strong headwinds.

For me, this encounter was a reminder:

Not everything is easy.
Not everything is fair.
But sometimes something great
doesn’t begin with perfect conditions —
but with one quiet sentence:

“I can do it.”

Maybe not immediately.
Maybe not without detours.
But step by step.

Not because everything is certain.
Not because circumstances are perfect.
But because someone trusts their heart
more than the voices around them.

Same situation.
New perspective.

LUMA – it begins in you.
